What is Lifestyle Medicine?
Lifestyle Medicine is the evidence-based practice of helping individuals and families adopt and sustain healthy behaviors that affect health and quality of life. Examples of target behaviors include, but are not limited to, the use of a whole-food, plant-predominant dietary lifestyle, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, and positive social connection. The goal of Lifestyle Medicine is to use these evidence-based interventions as a primary therapeutic modality for treatment and reversal of chronic diseases.
What is Health Promotion?
“Health promotion enables people to increase control over their own health. It covers a wide range of social and environmental interventions that are designed to benefit and protect individual people’s health and quality of life by addressing and preventing the root causes of ill health, not just focusing on treatment and cure.”
The World Health Organization (WHO), 2016.
